LIGHT & HEAVY RAIL

A NZ Herald article on Auckland Light Rail paints a grand picture of the economic and social benefits of light rail, but ends still stating the Mt Roskill to the airport section, including obviously Onehunga is still planned for above ground. Given the significant public feedback we would have hoped for some further options to be on the table. We still don't know what route of the two options is being fast tracked, neither option was great and other options have been put forward by the public. Why given all the benefits mentioned can the Onehunga section not be underground (just one of several other options proposed)? The cost savings and socio-economic benefits in the long run will still be there but Onehunga won't suffer the disruptions of developing an above ground railway and the ongoing issues and negative impacts this will bring.  Click to read NZ Herald Article here:  https://rb.gy/o0wn5
